Traditional live musicians (laouto and lira players (Cretan instruments)) singing Cretan songs could escort the bride to the church and continue playing while the guests congratulate the couple for their new life. During the ceremony the priest will offer to the couple a sip of blessed red wine symbol of the Christ's blood and walnuts with honey "melokarido", which for the Cretans symbolize the sweetness in the couple's life, the strong bonding and the fertility. After the ceremony walnuts and the honey will be offered to the guests along with sugared almonds from which they are supposed to take two (symbol for the married couple) and it is a custom for the single women to put one of them under their pillow the night of the wedding so they can dream the man they will marry. The special honeymoon night service includes romantic touches such as having special flower, candies or chocolates custom displays arranged on the bed and creating a dreamy candlelit ambience in the room.
Mykonos
Mykonos. Imagine …. picturesque narrow streets, white Myconian houses, impressive villas outside the town, cruise boats and luxury yachts, a cosmopolitan atmosphere, great boutiques, exclusive jewelry shops, elite restaurants in the town and waterfront restaurants on the beaches.
In Mykonos the legal marriage takes place at the town hall. After couples sign the marriage papers a blessing that resembles to the wedding can take place with a local priest.
For a special night out or wedding reception couples may want to consider little Venice. Little Venice is located close to the windmills and it is very romantic setting from which to see the sunset. A famous seafood restaurant "sea satin” has been used as a wedding reception venue. Another popular location is the Nammos restaurant at Psarou beach. Delos Island is another favorite site. Delos is an archeological site where you will find the Egyptian temple of Osiris and a Greek temple.
For smaller wedding receptions, couples staying at Santa Marina Resort & Villas can charter their small yacht (holds 8) and cruise around the island. The yacht is also perfect for a romantic relaxing day after the wedding. Couples can arrange -- as a registry suggestion -- for a private day trip around Mykonos with a visit to Delos.
In all Greek locations a live web-cast can be arranged so that family members and friends back home can share your wedding day (there is a fee and arrangements have to be made in advance for the correct licenses).
